Despite the fact that India is home to numerous worldwide popular games such as Chess, Ludo, and Snakes and Ladders, it is not among the major toy innovators and makers.
Toycathon-2022 is part of our Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri. Narendra Modi’s ‘AatmaNirbhar Bharat Abhiyan,’ which challenges India’s creative minds to create new toys and games based on Bharatiya civilisation, history, culture, mythology, and ethos.
Toycathon 2022 is an inter-ministerial initiative organised by the Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Education, with support from the All India Council for Technical Education, the Ministry of Women and Child Development, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Ministry of MSME, the Ministry of Textiles, and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
India’s toy sector is currently valued at roughly 1.5 billion dollars, with imported toys dominating the market. Like jeep, electric car, bike and for girls Barbie toy, kitchen set, Xylaphone especialy for kids toy gun Jcb toys etc.. Furthermore, the vast majority of these toys do not reflect Indian culture, civilisation, or values.
Toycathon 2022 is a unique opportunity for Students, Teachers, Start-ups and Toy experts/professionals in India to submit their innovative toys/games concepts and win large number of prizes worth Rs. 50 lakhs.
Around 1.2 lakh participants from across India registered and submitted more than 17000 ideas for the Toycathon 2021, out of which 1567 ideas have been shortlisted for the three days online Toycathon Grand Finale which being held from 22nd June to 24th June.Due to Covid-19 restrictions, this Grand Finale will have teams with digital toy ideas, while a separate physical event will be organized for non-digital toy concepts.
Toycathon-2021 aims to help India’s toy industry grow and acquire a larger portion of the global toy market. Our manufacturing sector has a big opportunity in both the domestic and global toy markets in India. On the occasion, the Union Minister of Education will also be present.

FOCUS OF TOYCATHON- 22

  1. Concepts for toys and games inspired by Indian civilisation, heritage, culture, mythology, history, ethos, technology, ethnicity, national heroes, and significant events.
  2. Instill good principles and positive behaviour (‘Sanskaar’).
  3. Toys for children with special needs/Divyanga children
  4. Increasing physical and mental health.
  5. Using environmentally acceptable, native, non-hazardous, or repurposed materials.
  6. Concentrate your efforts on spreading Vedic Mathematics.
  7. Promoting national unity while recognising and valuing cultural variety.
  8. Swatch Bharat, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Environment Conservation, Climate Change, Digital India, Skill India, and Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat are some of the missions are supported by Government .
  9. Traditional Indian toys are being rediscovered and redesigned.

Toys for pedagogy (for teaching difficult ideas to students in Math, Science, Languages, Social Sciences, and other subjects).
Design should adhere to the government of India’s basic toy criteria.
